town museum of Semur-en-Auxois

Located in the former convent, constructed in the XVIIth century, the museum of Semur-en-Auxois has preserved its museography from the XIXth century, and offers rich and diverse collections.

In geology, more than 10 000 pieces are exposed, and in zoology, birds and animals are brought together in a large exhibition room.

The archaeology room presents some prehistorical and protohistorical pieces, as well as Gallo-Roman, with in particular a beautiful ex voto collection.

The painting and sculptures gallery, with its zenithal lighting and its ground floor gallery, illustrate the XIXth century with its numerous statues, mainly sculpted by Augustin Dumont. The museum possesses his main pieces such as his original sculpture of the Génie de la Bastille, but also his paintings, features of the period.

Enjoy this museum with all your family, activities are provided for the kids during the holidays !
